Here's just a small sampling of the initiatives we've sustained over the years

The Eastern Bluebird Project

BRSS is helping to bring back New York’s State Bird, the Eastern Bluebird

Our mission is that future generations of New Yorkers will get to see their State Bird, the Eastern Bluebird.

Since 1998, we have installed over 300 nestboxes. The population of Eastern Bluebirds in our area went from NO bluebirds to well over 100 nesting attempts each year. Our nestboxes are in over 50 locations all over Westchester County, with more than 30 volunteers monitoring the nesting activity.

Explore this site, learn about the Eastern Bluebird and how you, too, can help in this important environmental mission. This project teaches that the actions of a few individuals CAN make a difference to the survival of a species..

SCHOLARSHIPS

Each summer BRSS tries to assist youngsters who could not otherwise have a wildlife camp experience.  Scholarships are currently available for the upcoming camp season.

The scholarship usually pays for one full week at a Westchester County Ecology Camp. Parents must provide transportation.

If you know of a child interested in this experience and has financial need, please contact BRSS Audubon at brssaudubon@gmail.com

Our Bird Seed Sale provides the funds for these scholarships. Thank you for supporting it.

This is a letter we received from a Tuckahoe child who attended Westchester County’s Ecology Camp at Cranberry Lake. When you finish reading it, we hope you’ll agree that this is a valuable program.
